Buy some more better books from amazon and try to learn the basics like hello, ect...or you can try finding work in india and you would after a while slowly assimilate into the indian culture...
Also, i wont recommend learning hindi by watching hindi movies. why? because to a person who is unfamiliar with the language, it seems really fast and incomprehensible. For example, i had learned Spanish for 3yrs in high school and today when i turn on the Spanish channel i am not able to understand 70 of the stuff. --- or you can befriend some indian kid who speaks hindi, and ask him to tutor you...---
Stop being so uptight, i was just kidding, i was actually a big neopet fan and are you stalking me?

I would learn standard hindi from books and cd's etc, or take a class .....then you can practice later recognizing words in hindi movies. The hindi in the movies isnt always what you would find in the proper hindi books, as its actually called 'Hadiboli' (hindu/urdu dialect)- a dialect that is commonly accepted as the common language of communication in movies, and media, and modern literature etc. watching the movies is good practice once you know a bit especially if you dont have anyone to converse with, and if you can understand the speedy talking then you wil do well. Get the ones with subtitles so you can at least learn pick up on some new words, with repitition you will come to recognize alot of common words, but be warned that subtitles are often not translated well and have alot of mistakes.
good luck!

Continue watching them with the subtitles. Go back to a part if you have to, if you want to learn a word. It works. Luckily there is a lot of English as well, so you can get through sentences, if you get what I mean. I suggest you search on the internet for some vocab words (bollywhat.com [forum sections] is very helpful). Even in lyrics and their translations can help a lot. Then, immerse yourself in the language - get as much exposure as you can. If you need help, contact me. I don't know much Hindi (it's kind of weak), but surely I can be of some assistance. Once you understand verbs, you'll be alright. http://www.bollywhat-forum.com/
I highly recommend this site for you. It's filled with non-Indians wanting to learn Hindi and who are just as crazed about Bollywood as we are!
Also, if you're willing to learn, you'll have to learn the script (Devanagari) which will take a while, but it's easy to pick up.
If you prefer a less "Bollywood approach" (not stated in your question, but in case), then you should buy/borrow some books and CDs to get you started.
